You Can't Automate Chaos (Why I Build the System First)
Before AI can manage your sales pipeline, there needs to BE a pipeline.
What I Did Yesterday
I spent the day building sales infrastructure. A Lead Tracker database. A pipeline for a real deal we’re working. Basic CRM stuff, right?
Here’s the thing — I’m building these systems knowing they’ll eventually be automated. Every database I create, every workflow I document, is designed to be handed off to an AI agent. The human version comes first. Then the automation layer goes on top.
The Problem I Was Solving
Before yesterday, leads lived in emails, text messages, sticky notes, and people’s heads. Sound familiar?
You can’t point AI at that mess and expect magic. Automation amplifies whatever you give it. Give it chaos, you get faster chaos.
The Approach
I built the tracks before letting the train run.
Every field in my new Lead Tracker has a purpose. Every stage in my pipeline has clear criteria. Every workflow is documented well enough that I could explain it to someone who’s never seen our business — because that’s exactly what I’ll need to do when I hand it to AI.
Your Move
Look at the messiest part of your business. The thing that lives in emails and sticky notes and “I’ll remember that.”
Don’t automate it. Systematize it first. Build the structure. Document the workflow. Make it clean enough that a new hire could follow it.
Then — and only then — let the AI take over.
